State Education considers eliminating some testing due to budget crisis
(June 23, 2010) The New York State Education Department is considering
eliminating some state testing for the 2010-2011 school year due to the
state's fiscal problems and lack of a state budget. The State
Board of Regents voted on June 22 to approve two sets of strategies to
achieve cost reductions in the state assessment program. Part of that
includes eliminating the fifth and eighth grade social studies
assessments and the possible elimination of the January 2011 Regents
exams.
