Elementary school kicks off caring and sharing initiative
Food drive underway to help those in need

Dec. 5, 2008 – As part of Voorheesville
Elementary School's caring and sharing initiative, students are being
encouraged to bring in non-perishable, non-glass items and paper
products to school from Dec. 1-12. All items will be donated to the New
Scotland Food Pantry.
Students who bring in the same item as Interim Principal Edward Diegel
will have their name placed on the bulletin board near the cafeteria
where the class with the most students displayed will earn a chance to
exercise with the principal.
The school’s caring and sharing initiative kicked off in late November
during a school-wide assembly that focused on helping others,
specifically explaining how food pantries help those in need. Retired
kindergarten teacher Judy Douglas shared her experiences volunteering at
the New Scotland Food Pantry, while a slideshow displayed pictures of
kindergartners touring the pantry during a recent field trip.
The assembly also featured Kathy Rudd’s second-graders singing “You're A
Grand Old Flag” and music teachers Mary Theresa McCormick and Melynda
Matheke leading the school in a song about being thankful.
Second-graders in Jennifer Scott’s class read poems while students in
Terry Luyckzx’s fifth-grade physical education class demonstrated speed
stacking.
The event is off to a great start, many thanks to everyone for your
generosity. |
