Volunteers sought to help bring school/community
garden to fruition
The Garden Project Committee needs volunteers through
October to help plant, weed, water and harvest produce
for use by the New Scotland Community Food Pantry and Voorheesville's school cafeterias.
The entire community is invited to help Blackbird
Paradise produce a bountiful harvest.
No gardening experience is
necessary; enthusiasm is always welcome.
How to sign-up
To sign-up, e-mail your name, phone number, and when (specific
days or weeks and times) you'd like to volunteer to
vvillegarden@gmail.com
or complete and mail the
volunteer form.
Orientation Programs
Contact us to set up a private garden orientation.
Volunteer Opportunities
Volunteers may help with any number of activities,
including:
Gardening
Tasks include watering, planting, weeding,
fertilizing and harvesting.
Garden mentors and club leaders
Experienced gardeners are encouraged to apply and
help the uninitiated catch the "gardening bug" through the Garden Mentor
Program or by starting a Garden Club in one of the schools. A few hours
of your time can make a huge difference to an individual or group of
students who are just getting started.
Garden assistants
Work alongside garden committee members completing
any number of gardening tasks listed above, helping to supervise student
or community groups while they are in the garden and assisting with
special garden events.
Garden Committee
Help keep the garden growing throughout the year by
joining the Garden Project Committee--you don't even have to get your
hands dirty! Attend planning meetings, chair a sub-committee, become a
school liaison, write a grant, help with special events, Web site
maintenance, publicity and much more.
More Ways to Help
You can
drop off produce donations from your home garden Tuesday and
Thursday mornings or email us at
vvillegarden@gmail.com to make other arrangements. All
donations will be delivered to the New Scotland Community
Food Pantry for distribution.
