Expectations

Report to scheduled class on time! ALL late
arrivals must have a PASS from a staff/faculty member.

Change quickly in the locker room.

Wear appropriate clothing for physical activity
(sneakers, shorts/wind-pants, T-shirt) Please refrain from wearing
any clothing with pockets, jean-type material, or slide on sneakers.

Be prepared to have warmer clothing for outdoor
activities.

Locker Assignments: Do NOT give out your
combination.
Medical Excuses

Any student that will be excused from physical
education due to a medical problem must receive a note from a
physician. Each excuse is to be brought to the school nurse (Mrs.
Jones) and then to the PE department.

A student is required to return to PE if/when
the medical exemption has expired.
Physical Education Rubric and Grading Procedures
- Middle Level 2006-07
The following rubric is used as the basis for the grading system in
Physical Education for the Grades 6-8.
Score of 1
• Student dresses out.
• Student often arrives late.
• Student displays little/no interest in class activity.
• Student is confrontational when spoken to.
• Student does not follow directions.
• Student displays lack of respect for self/others.
Score of 2
• Student dresses out.
• Student often arrives late.
• Student displays little interest in class activity.
• Student rarely completes activity/game.
• Student is not receptive to feedback from teacher/peers.
• Student displays little respect for self/others.
Score of 3
• Student dresses out.
• Student is on time.
• Student displays interest in class activity.
• Student is cooperative and on task.
• Student is open to feedback from teacher/peers.
• Student displays respect for self/others.
Score of 4
• Student dresses out.
• Student is on time.
• Student displays strong interest in class activity.
• Student displays understanding of activity and application of
technical concepts.
• Student welcomes feedback from teacher/peers.
• Student displays respect, maturity, and honesty for self/others.
Score of 5
• Student dresses out.
• Student is on time.
• Student displays strong motivation to excel.

By using the above grading rubric, a student is assessed daily on
participation and effort by the PE instructor. A student accumulates
points throughout the quarter, which will determine their grade at the
end of each marking period.
The following numerical averages will determine
the letter grade a student receives at the end of each quarter.

A = 4.2 – 5.0

B = 3.4 – 4.1
-
C = 2.8 – 3.3
-
D = 1.9 – 2.7
-
F = 0.1 – 1.8
For example, if a student has PE 22 times for the
first quarter, was present at every class, and that student
earned 93 points, their daily average is a 4.2. That student would
receive an “A” for that marking period.
A student who is absent illegally or is not prepared
for class will receive a “zero” for that class period.
A student has the opportunity to make up any classes
that were missed because of an absence and/or being unprepared for
class. All make-ups must be approved by the instructor and completed
before the end of each marking period.
Any student has the potential to earn extra credit
(rubric points) in physical education. This may be achieved by attending
additional classes or submitting pre-approved extra work to your
instructor.
