Eighth Grade General Music, taught by Mrs. Marie Coppola and Mrs.
Jessica Seifel
Course meets:
Non-Band Students - 20 Weeks every other day
Band Students - 5 weeks every day
Goal:
To give students an appreciation of different kinds
of music and to develop musical skills through hands-on participation.
Textbook:
Share The Music, by McGraw Hill
Supplies:
Notebook, pocket folder & pencil
Classroom Expectation:
We ask that all students follow five rules in our
classroom every day:
1. Be prepared for class.
2. Be on time.
3. Be courteous to everyone.
4. Be careful of classroom equipment.
5. Keep an open mind.
Failure to follow these rules will result in one or
all of the following: detention, referral to principal, and/or parental
notification.
Evaluation Methods:
Students will earn a number grade based on
participation, tests, homework/classwork, quizzes, and the final exam.
-
Participation: (30%) This grade is based on
attitude, effort, and behavior.
-
Tests: (25%) This grade includes all tests or
long term projects done in and out of class. This also includes
keyboard quizzes that will occur frequentlyduring class.
-
Homework/Classwork: (20%) This grade is based on
all work assigned and completed for class and any assignments given
for homework.
Final Exam: (25%) The final will take place in class
at the end of the year
Absences/Missed Work:
Because most of the work done in general music is
hands-on using classroom instruments, it is imperative that students be
present for class. In the event of an absence, students must make up any
work missed as quickly as possible. They may have time during class to
catch up or may have to come in during home base or after school to make
up missed work.
Extra Help:
I will be available Wednesday and Thursday after
school for extra help.
