The Principal’s Art Collection

Visit the library to see the Principal's Art Collection composed of the best of Voorheesville students' work. 

Each year, one talented Voorheesville art student is selected to receive the Principal’s Art Collection Award. This honor is a Purchase Prize, which means the recipient receives $100 in exchange for the work. Students who enter this competition know that they will let go of their work, which becomes a permanent acquisition of the school. The work is juried each May by a committee composed of art faculty, department heads and the principal.

To date, there are six pieces in the collection. The newest addition is a plaster sculpture by sculpture student Hillary VanDyke-Restifo. This is the first three-dimensional work of art in the collection. Previous winners include: 2001 winner Amy Dunbar’s Hiding From Life, a self-portrait in both graphite and colored pencil; 2002 winner Jenette Axelrod’s Pieces of Me, a three-part self-portrait in acrylics; 2003 winner Stacy Veeder’s Untitled, an illustration of a cemetery scene; 2004 winner Stephanie Disser’s Matisse-Through My Eyes, a colorful mixed-media piece; and 2005 winner Ryan Wineinger’s Flag Drapery Study, done in charcoal pencil.

Annually, the work will be displayed in the Art Gallery in the PAC lobby. Enjoy this excellent work and who knows… maybe your work will join the collection someday!
