At the elementary level, the school counselor is
here to listen and help. Whether you feel upset about trouble with a
friend, worried about your parents splitting up, or feel like you don't
fit in at school, your school counselor is trained to help you. She will
take your problem seriously and work with you to find a good solution.
Places you may see your school counselor include your classroom, the
lunchroom, and the playground. Of course, students are always welcome to
ask their teacher or their parent to set up a time to talk with the
counselor.
The counselor may also serve as a resource for parents. Parents may call
school to make an appointment to see the counselor or stop in to the
counseling office to arrange a time to meet. If after discussing
concerns, parents feel they need more help, the counselor can provide
referrals for outside agencies.
